Our local chapter of NANN was established in January 1994 and is a local leader in neonatal nursing education and community service. South Florida neonatal nurse professionals join SEFANN for the latest developments in the field as well as to enjoy networking with the community of Neonatal nurses from Dade, Broward and the Southeast Florida area.
Our members volunteer and sponsor events to raise money for the March of Dimes organization. Thank you to Deb Langer and Sherry Lanthier who volunteered at the March of Dimes Awards Dinner at Parrot Jungle Island on June 8. SEFANN received a plaque for our 2010 participation in the March for Babies.
On April 24th SEFANN volunteers hosted Fun Stop # 1 at the annual March for Babies on Key Biscayne, FL. SEFANN is a corporate sponsor for the March For Babies and contributes over $2,000 to the fundraiser each year. We met early Saturday morning at Crandon Park Beach to set up the refreshments for participants who walked that morning. Thank you to everyone who came out that morning and to Deb Langer for organizing our volunteers.
We also have an annual Christmas toy drive for underprivileged children in South Florida. For Christmas 2009, SEFANN donated toys and gifts to children being served by the Salvation Army, Project Angel Tree. Contact Deb Langer if you would like to volunteer for any SEFANN project.
SEFANN concluded the 14th Annual Hot Topics in the Tropics Neonatal Nursing Conference which was held on March 11-12, 2010.
The two-day event featured up-to-date evidence based practice information and topics. Both locally and nationally recognized speakers presented topics of interest to neonatal nurses. Participants rated several of our speakers very highly including the presentation on conjoined twins by Dr. Stylianos and eosinophillic esophagitus by Dr. Gonzalez-Vallina. SEFANN is a Florida Board of nursing CEU provider and provides 14 CEU's in nursing for those who attended this 2-day conference.
Our vendors provided participants with demos of new items for our neonates and sponsored several door prizes for the lucky winners.
Thank you to our SEFANN officers, volunteers and everyone who helped to make Hot Topics XIV a success.
Next year Hot Topics XV will take place on March 10 and 11th, 2011. Planning will begin over the summer so let us know if you have a suggested topic or if you may wish to volunteer.

SEFANN meets every other month at 6:00 PM in one of the South Florida area hospitals. We alternate between Dade and Broward Counties to make it easier for everyone to attend. One CEU credit is awarded to members for attending these dinner/lecture meetings.
